Decision Variable

A decision variable is a quantity that the decision-maker controls in a model.

In sales and marketing, decision variables include activities like TV advertising, print media, and product sampling, which can be optimized for better outcomes.

For example, in labor scheduling, the number of nurses to employ during the morning shift in an emergency room is a decision variable.
